Kantara’s Commitment to Fair Trade

Meaning “bridge” in Arabic, Kantara establishes local and long-lasting relationships by bridging the gap between women artisans in Morocco and socially-conscious communities in the United States.

Kantara is a proud member of the Fair Trade Federation. As a member, Kantara ensures that all of its artisans are paid promptly and fairly, business is conducted in a transparent and accountable manner, and cultural identity is respected. Furthermore, Kantara supports safe working conditions free of child labor.

Kantara’s Commitment to Education

In order to spread awareness for Moroccan Rugs and the artisans that make the rugs, Kantara conducts presentations on the socio-economic and cultural ramifications of textile production in rural Morocco; rich with anecdotes and balanced by thorough research, these presentations may be booked for organizations, schools, museums, and private parties.

In addition, Kantara presents Untangling Threads: Women Artisans in Morocco’s Rug Weaving Industry, an educational art exhibit that displays handwoven rugs beside documentary photographs of women weavers responsible for weaving them.
